Eagle’s Tour

Length: 49 km (24 km)/ Difficulty: hard (easy)/ Ride time: 3–4 h (1–1.5 h)

The cycling route takes you past the confluence of rivers Krka and Sava and starts descending to Vrbina at the Brežice Castle. The central section of the route leads through the woods. Following the northern side, ascend to the Orlice hills. At the Church of St. Gertrude, you can enjoy an unforgettable view. After descending past the Pišece Castle, you will arrive at the village of Pišece and then continue past vineyards to the foothills and back to the valley.

  1. Start at the swimming pool complex of the Terme Čatež Spa and follow the main road.
  2. At the roundabout, take a right turn and go straight on through the junction with traffic lights following the road to the old bridge. Be careful!
  3. Turn right to the old bridge crossing the rivers Krka and Sava and on to the Brežice Castle.
  4. Before the Brežice Castle, descend to the left in Vrbina and to the gravel road.
  5. Turn left to the dirt road. Continue to the fence and then turn right towards poplar plantations, cross the gravel road and ride to the asphalt road.
  6. Turn left to the asphalt road and then right after 300 metres.
  7. After the railway crossing, turn left to a busy road. After a double bend the road continues in a straight line.
  8. Leaving the main road, turn right to Trebež and continue straight on. Follow the priority road towards Glogov Brod.
  9. When the road turns left, go right to a dirt track winding through orchards.
  10. In Artiče, turn left to Volčje. Continue straight on through the Artiče forest. At the end of the section, there is a descent, take a right turn and ascend to the wine road.
  11. Turn left to the wavy wine road which runs through the forest at this section.
  12. Turn left and descend to Močnik.
  13. Turn right to the main road. This is followed by a slight ascent through the woods along the Močnik stream.
  14. Turn right for Osredek. At the junction for Osredek, continue straight on. The route starts ascending.
  15. At the junction by the quarry, turn right into the woods on the asphalt road.
  16. This is the highest point of the tour. Proceed straight down. A steep descent on the asphalt road follows. Be careful because you will have to almost stop and take a sharp left turn before the church!
  17. Before the church, take a sharp left turn to the gravel road leading to the Pišece Castle, and then turn right at the castle pond and continue to the pond by the main road.
  18. Turn left at the pond to the main asphalt road towards Pišece.
  19. At the local shop in Pišece, turn right and descend in the direction of Globoko.
  20. Leaving the main road, take a slight left turn for Orehovec and then continue uphill.
  21. At the top, turn slightly right. Ride along the wavy road on the ridge. At the junction by the Church of St. Cross, continue straight up.
  22. Turn right at the junction towards the Church of St. Barbara standing at the section leading to the woods above the road.
  23. At the junction, take a right turn and follow the descending road.
  24. At the bottom, turn right and after 100 metres right again. Continue straight on at the junction in Globoko.
  25. Before the name board of Dečno selo, turn left and continue straight on through Cundrovec and cross the railway.
  26. 100 metres after a sharp bend of the priority road, leave the main road and go left towards Zakot.
  27. After arriving to the main road, take a right turn uphill towards Brežice. At the traffic lights, turn left and continue straight on through the roundabout and the Sava bridge.
  28. At the next traffic lights by the Sava River and also at the roundabout, turn left and return by the main road to the Terme Čatež Spa.
  29. The tour ends at the Čatež Tourist Information Centre.

    Short route: At Point 10 you continue straight through Artiče. After riding through the woods, the wavy road brings you to the junction where you turn left. At the end of Dečno selo, after 2.3 km, you arrive at Point 25, where you turn right and continue through the points that follow.

    Points of interest: old bridge, Posavje museum Brežice, Ban's homestead, Pišece Castle, Church of St. Cross, Church of St. Barbara, confluence of rivers Krka and Sava.
