The holiday season is approaching, and with it, Brežice, my festive town, is preparing a rich variety of events that will take place throughout December. Among this year’s new additions are extra activities at the ice rink in Brežice and in the park by Santa’s mailbox.
The festive happenings will begin on Sunday, December 1, when the Posavje Museum Brežice invites you to the Holiday Craft Fair as part of the first Sunday at the museum. Local artisans will present their work, including those who are part of the Brežice Izbrano collective brand. For the youngest, a Sweet Crafting Workshop with Santa Claus will be held, where children can decorate cookies with chocolate and create the shape of the Krškopolje pig. The event will conclude with a public tour of the “Last Chance for Stories” exhibition by Tajda Tomšič.
The very next day, Monday, December 2, the traditional “Walk with Lanterns” organized by the Brežice Mavrica Kindergarten will take place. This year, it will be extra special, as we will open the Brežice Santa’s Mailbox at the end of the event at the Youth Center Brežice.
On December 3, Slovenia celebrates the day of culture, in honor of the birth of our greatest poet, France Prešeren. On this day, most museums in Slovenia offer free entry, and the Posavje Museum Brežice will be one of them, open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. At 10:00 AM, there will also be a free event at the Brežice Water Tower with the opening of the exhibition “Water, the Way We Want It.” In the evening, flutist Jurka Zoroja will perform with guests in the Knight’s Hall, in a concert titled “From Baroque to Modern.”
On the day of St. Nicholas (Friday, December 6), we have prepared a “Elf’s Path among the Lights” for you. This is a festive walk through Brežice in the evening, where the holiday lights will illuminate the old town center. Families will walk together with Santa’s helpers and listen to a fairytale. The event will conclude at the Santa’s Mailbox, where children can write letters to Santa with the help of the elves. The event will also be repeated on Saturday, December 7. To register, please contact info@visitbrezice.si.
On Saturday, December 7, the fun will not only be at Santa’s Mailbox but also at the Brežice ice rink, where the Ice Fun event kicks off. Ice skating and skate rental will be free all day, with an animation program on the ice. From 8:30 AM, you can also attend the Skiing Fair and equip yourself for the upcoming winter days. In the evening, Anja Kramar will perform an acoustic live concert. The day will conclude with a concert by the band Niet, celebrating their 40th anniversary. The concert will be held in the Multi-purpose Hall at the Youth Center Brežice, with the group Ember performing as the opening act.
An important date for all children and parents is December 12, when the Santa’s Mailbox will close, and it will be the last chance to submit a letter to Santa. At the Youth Center, there will also be a children’s performance: “A Fairy Tale for Elves.” (Free tickets available from December 2 at the MC Brežice info point.)
On Friday, December 13, a free workshop for creating holiday greeting cards will take place at the Multi-generational Center, and in the evening, the MC Club will host a festive party featuring the band Funk Parker.
For ice skating enthusiasts, an unforgettable ice performance awaits you. On Wednesday, December 18, join us for the ice spectacle “Light Poetry,” performed by Čupakabra.
Opera fans are invited to the Posavje Museum Brežice for the All-Slovenian concert by the Pehlivanian Opera Academy, which will take place on Thursday, December 19.

On the last Saturday of the year (December 28), enjoy the acoustic concert of Marolt Acoustic Live at the Brežice ice rink.
The year will conclude in Brežice with exciting events. On the penultimate day (December 30), join us for the 10th Annual New Year’s Gala Concert: “New Year’s Potpourri” at the Knight’s Hall. The city will also host two concerts: Slovenian musician Nika Zorjan will warm up the stage, followed by a concert co-organized with the Brežice Student Association, featuring Yugo for a Long Time Vol. 3: Leteči Odred.
The first to enter the New Year will be the children, who on December 31 will enjoy the “Children’s New Year” with Vila Eksena and superheroes. Dedek Mraz will also visit them. In the evening, join us for the celebration and countdown to the New Year in the city with “New Year’s Eve in the Open Air.”
