This year's theme, "Planet Against Plastic," underscores the need for action against the excessive use of plastic, which has long been a global challenge. Experts call for a 60 percent reduction in plastic production by 2040, which is crucial for the sustainable future of our Earth.
In Brežice, we have actively participated in clean-up actions as part of Earth Day, which take place throughout Slovenia. Local communities across the municipality organized smaller clean-up actions, and more than 400 volunteers joined these efforts. Elementary schools also got involved by collecting textile waste, while on Saturday, April 20th, we conducted a municipal collection of hazardous waste in the parking lot of the Intermarket Brežice shopping center.
Each individual can contribute significantly to preserving our environment. When shopping, let's consider the packaging of products and seek alternative options to plastic packaging. Using reusable cloth shopping bags brought from home is an excellent way to reduce the use of plastic bags and help the environment.
In Brežice, we strive to use less single-use plastic even within our event "Mestna promenada," which was recognized last year as a Low Waste Event by the Association Ecologists Without Borders. Every small step we take counts towards achieving the ultimate goal - preserving the planet for future generations.
