Mestna Promenada Brežice, organized this year by the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice, took place from July 10th to 19th, and once again confirmed its reputation as the most popular summer event in Posavje. Over ten days, it attracted 17,000 visitors who enjoyed a rich program full of music, culture, sports activities, offerings from local artists, and local cuisine. According to the organizer, the most important goal was achieved: making the event even more "green" in the heart of the old city center.
On the opening night, the old town center of Brežice came alive with the first Street Food Festival featuring vendors with the Brežice Selection / Izbrano certificate of excellence. The musical evening was beautifully initiated by the Tamburaški Orchestra Artiče, whose energy warmed up the atmosphere and set the stage for the highlight of the evening – a concert by Nuša Derenda. The popular singer, celebrating 25 years of her music career, thrilled the audience with her greatest hits, with the crowd singing and dancing en masse. The following evening, the event moved to a new venue – the Posavje Museum Brežice, which hosted an excellent concert by Veronika Strnad in its idyllic setting. One of the most attended evenings was undoubtedly Friday, when the stage was taken over by the popular Kvatropirci and the energetic Alya.
On Saturday, the old town center became the venue for the traditional Village Games, where visitors enthusiastically participated in various games and competitions. This was followed by a concert by one of the best Beatles tribute bands, Help! A Beatles Tribute, which revived the spirit of the legendary group and delighted both young and old. Sunday was culturally themed with an exhibition in the City Hall Gallery, where visitors admired artworks by local creators. In the evening, Klapa Kampanel performed, filling the streets of the old town with Dalmatian melodies.
Building up the excellent atmosphere
The second week of the event continued with numerous interesting activities. Monday featured dance presentations by various dance groups, and in the evening, visitors danced to the rhythms of salsa and bachata. The next day, the courtyard of the Posavje Museum Brežice was filled to the last seat as visitors enjoyed an open-air movie screening of "Summer When I Learned to Fly." Wednesday was dedicated mainly to the youngest with children's hours and fun with the group Čuki, who created a cheerful atmosphere with their TA-TA tractor party. Thursday began with children's activities, including animations, workshops, and face painting, with the highlight of the evening being the summer concert by Gušti, who delighted in his characteristic style.
The last day of the City Promenade concluded in the best possible way. The city began filling up at 6 PM, starting with children's hours, followed by the highly anticipated children's show "Circus Kolibri" performed by Čupakabra. The grand finale was a concert by the legendary group Neki to Vole Vruće.
Tasting local delights
Local vendors also provided an excellent culinary experience at the City Promenade Brežice 2024. On the opening night, the old town center transformed into a "street kitchen," featuring vendors from the Brežice Selection / Izbrano brand. Visitors could enjoy a variety of food and drinks offered by different vendors on all other days, ranging from traditional local dishes to modern culinary delights.
On the way to even greener events
Last year, this popular summer event, as the longest-running event in Slovenia, received the prestigious Zero Waste Event title. This year, with the help of 10 international volunteers from the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) from five different countries, we strived to achieve the same recognition. While we are still awaiting the official results, we were pleased to monitor the waste weighing results, showing that we managed to separate more than 95% of all waste during the event. Therefore, we are hopeful to once again earn the title of "Event with Less Waste" or ZERO WASTE event this year.
