Town Walls

In the 16th century, the medieval town walls were replaced with new, longer, and stronger walls. The new walls covered the area of the present town centre and comprised corner towers, a fortress and several small towers on the inner side. The walls were 1.90 meters thick and 6.60 meters high. The town could be entered through the northern, southern, and eastern gates. Individual parts of the tower and walls are still partly preserved and visible. The ground plan of the tower and the walls is shown on the pavement under today’s post office and on the road.
